Gmail’s recent big marketshare bump
Litmus publishes a report of email marketshare based upon the statistics that they collect from emails that are tracked using their Email Analytics service. In the February 2014 report, I noticed Gmail made a leap from 3.02% to 10.27% in marketshare from Nov 2013 to Feb 2014.
This is a huge development because it meant that the number of email opens that were tracked increased by 270% over that time period. What were the causes? Did Gmail increase their user base by more than 2X over that time frame? Did Gmail make some changes that affected the market share calculation? Or was it something else?
I came up with some guesses in this article published at the MagillReport:
What’s Behind Gmail’s 270% Bump in Email Opens?
